When you were, say, in kindergarten, what did you want to be? And how far off are you from that now?
I remember every other boy in my class was going to be a professional soccer player and every girl was going to be a veterinarian. According to my parents, I had resolved by age 5 to earn an MBA from Harvard and become CEO of my own airline. I even went so far as to create mock-ups of potential company logos.
I think I veered off of that path pretty early, though.

A garbage truck driver. Because those things that pick up the bins were cool.

That's me with my head sticking out of the Pontiac. Yes I was stuck.

Wanted to be a car design engineer, currently a mechanical design engineer in the semiconductor industry. So I'm not that far off, and I could still transition into the automotive industry fairly easily.

I wanted to be a fighter pilot....seeing as I'm now an animator and don't even have a pilots license, I'd say I'm pretty far off from that original aspiration.

I wanted to be an architect for awhile, then I couldn't figure out what I wanted to be, so I became a drafter. 12 years and no ambition later, I still am. I still think in terms of what I will be someday, but in reality, I know I'm probably just going to be this .
Free advice for young folks: DON'T EVER SETTLE. Follow your passion. If you don't have one, get off your ass (literally - put down the Xbox controller and stand up) and go find a passion. It sounds corny, but corny is better than middle-aged and full of regret.

I never could answer that question and i have never been able to even now. It has been a source of pain and doubt and fear. Man i wish i could as a child say i want to be a fireman or whatever and go for it.

I wanted to be either Super Mario and/or a vampire. I ended up being a Security Administrator. But, I am working night shift so that's kinda like being a vampire I suppose.
